The Advent of Christmas
Posted by: | CommentsI have heard it said in many different cultures that the greater joy of any event is in its anticipation and not in the event itself. A parent eagerly awaits the birth of a child or the return of a child from its wanderings – coming home is an occasion to be treasured on both sides of the equation. In much the same way, with bated breath, we await the advent of the Christmas season.
Despite the controversial Christmas Wars – is it Happy Holidays to celebrate the traditional pagan feast of the winter solstice or is Jesus the reason for the Christmas season as acknowledged by those of Christian Faith? Is it a commemoration of the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrians in 165 B.C. and the re-dedication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem? Is it mine or is it yours? Does it even matter?
Well , the bottomline message of Christmas is Hope and Love and Light for all those who live in darkness.
Lessons I learnt from my Father
Posted by: | CommentsTo my Father on His Birthday!
A jingling Pocket… a whiskery kiss
And hundreds of answers to “Daddy, what’s this?”
A spot on his lap for his tiniest miss
A dear friend for life- That’s my Dad!
A hand on my shoulder, some help with a class
A heart to heart talk, and money for gas
In difficult times, a “This, too, will pass”
An anchor of strength…That’s my Dad.
Thanksgiving – A Season Of Gratitude!
Posted by: | CommentsIt will soon be Thanksgiving in the United States. We celebrated it earlier in October in Canada . It is always a good time to reflect on all the things we are thankful for…and not just during the holiday season.
I am thinking of all the wonderful people that have entered and left my life at different stages and realize how wonderfully blest I have been to have known them all!
My wonderful parents who have been my foundation and cornerstone of all that I am as an adult. I owe my fortunate carefree and happy childhood to their protection and guidance , their gentle wisdom and simple faith, their example of generosity and kindness to people less fortunate than ourselves and above all to their unwavering belief in me, no matter what my flaws.
I see the world around me with many of my close friends hurting from memories of their childhood and realize I have been given the gift of being unconditionally accepted for being who I am , which makes me strong. With that strength comes the responsibility to give to others from what has been given to me.
